Predict 2025: There Will Never Be an Autonomous SOC.
According to Gartner: "Some market vendors promise that Security Operations Center (SOC) activities will never be fully automated. Even as automation advances, humans will always contribute critical skills to the SOC. Security and risk management (SRM) leaders should focus the benefits of AI and automation on augmentation, not complete replacement."

Our key findings
The following points can be summarized:
-
Automation, orchestration and AI
Automation, orchestration and AI in solutions designed for security operations functions such as detection and response or vulnerability management are expected to have a transformative effect. While they are unlikely to deliver on some of the exaggerated promises of complete autonomy, they do create scalability for certain roles within the security operations center (SOC).
-
Use of AI
The use of AI in security-related tasks will - like any other technology - require new skills and training. Senior analysts and employees with programming or "code-first" skills are likely to add more value to the SOC organization, especially with regard to the daily use of automation and AI.
-
Modern functions
Modern functions such as threat exposure management are increasingly becoming a critical component of the SOC. Automation-driven capabilities create scope to further develop skills and expertise in these areas.
