German companies targeted - learn from the example of others!
In the first half of 2024, we already reported on 150 real security incidents at German companies. The OOPS-H2 2024 report now follows on from this and once again offers a detailed analysis of security incidents in German companies. Part 2 of the popular report is supplemented with expert contributions from leading cybersecurity speakers from various sectors, who provide insights into their work and give useful tips. The report covers a large number of incidents that have become public in the most affected sectors, the most common types of attackers and attacks and their percentage distribution.

Findings from the second half of 2024
Threat situation and impact
Increasing digitalization and the progressive networking of companies have also led to a significant increase in security incidents in the second half of 2024. Cyber criminals are becoming increasingly professional, using ever more sophisticated attack techniques and exploiting security vulnerabilities in company networks in a targeted manner.
Particularly noticeable in recent months has been the increase in ransomware attacks, which have not only led to considerable financial damage, but have also massively impaired the operational capability of many companies. Added to this is the increasing spread of data leaks in which highly sensitive information was stolen and offered for sale on the darknet. These incidents not only lead to financial losses, but also to a considerable loss of trust among customers and partners.

Reactions and objectives of the white paper
In addition to the direct damage, the public perception of cyber attacks has also become more explosive. The media regularly report on new incidents and government regulators are responding with stricter compliance requirements. Companies must therefore not only arm themselves against threats, but also be prepared to communicate transparently in the event of an attack and take appropriate countermeasures quickly.
In this white paper, we have compiled and analyzed a selection of the most important security incidents in the second half of 2024. In order to focus on preventive measures and lessons learned, we have deliberately refrained from naming the companies affected. Our aim is to provide decision-makers and IT security experts with valuable insights that they can use to improve their security strategy and better defend against future threats.
